Mother of Boston Marathon Bombing Victims Endorses Caroline Colarusso

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Stoneham MA……. Today  Liz Brown Norden, whose two sons were both victims of the April 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, has endorsed Stoneham Selectwoman Caroline Colarusso for State Representative in the 31st Middlesex District encompassing Stoneham and Winchester.

“It’s an easy choice for me to support Caroline Colarusso for State Representative. She is a woman who is not afraid to take on the status quo on Beacon Hill. Caroline has proved that she will uphold the law, even when it is politically difficult to do so. As our State Representative, we can count on her to uphold our immigration laws, vote against making us a Sanctuary State, provide oversight and accountability as it relates to public benefits, and support law enforcement," Norden said.

“I am humbled and grateful to have the endorsement and the support of Liz Brown Norden, mother of JP and Paul Norden of Stoneham and victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings. Liz, a single mother of five children all raised in Stoneham, understands the importance of upholding the law on Beacon Hill,” Colarusso said.

Boston Marathon bombers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev were allowed to claim refugee status from their native Chechnya.  Yet all the while they were flying back and forth to the place from which they claimed to be fleeing. Additionally, as reported by many news outlets including the Boston Herald, “The extended family of the accused Boston Marathon bombers received more than $100,000 in public assistance through a variety of government programs.”

“It is inherently wrong to dish out public dollars from a system that lacks proper checks and balances. This type of irresponsible handing out of public dollars must be changed to include verification enhancements that ensure those receiving public benefits are actually qualified people in need of public benefits”, Colarusso said.

Colarusso added that the Massachusetts Legislature has treated public benefit verification as a third rail, kicking the can down the road and watching expenditures increase at unsustainable rates. “There must be improvements to the system to ensure all public benefits are distributed to those most vulnerable in society who truly need them,” Colarusso said.

Liz Brown Norden sons’ tragic ordeal has forever changed their family's lives. Acts of terrorism both at home and abroad have a profound impact on our state, country and the safety of our citizens, and we should do everything we possibly can to support the victims of terrorist attacks. In addition, we must do everything possible on Beacon Hill to make sure Massachusetts doesn’t give state benefits to people who are not legal citizens,” Colarusso added.
